They have lived and worked in the wake of Chavez's reforms and have told us what that is like. Their persistence amazes me, and I am thankful for telenovelas as a medium that can reflect and instigate major cultural and societal change. One of the main things I have learned this semester is the way media has the power to impact society in more ways than those that are readily apparent. I have a lot of the same interests as you...Marina, <br />I have a lot of the same interests as you regarding telenovelas and politics. I think the intertwined relationship between telenovelas and society is so interesting- and I wonder why we don't see it having as strong of an effect here in the US. Probably because of the difference in government control/power. I am in a Sports Media and Society class and we have discussed how sports can play a similar role in society as telenovelas do in Venezuela. Although countries may have very serious conflicts- sports are one thing in which we can have a commonality.
